Help me I have a child in my class who speaks another language!

It is important to offer the Curriculum to all our pupils.  We should be multi-cultural within our classrooms and ensure that all children understand all of the things that we are teaching.

I have come across many teachers who are desperate to cater for all their pupils in their class.  In Northern Ireland and the UK we are guaranteed to at least experience one year, where we teach a child who has no English background.

Within foundation stage it is important to teach the child under the following headings:
  • Nursery Rhymes
  • Parts of the body
  • Clothes
  • Days of the Week
  • Food
  • Places
  • Items in the Bathroom
  • Items in the Bedroom
  • Items in the Kitchen
  • Items in the Living Room
  • Colours
  • Items in the Classroom
  • Numbers
  • Buildings
  • Time
  • Countries

So where do you start?

I was lucky because I have an Arabic friend who was willing to help me out.  Let me introduce you to Mohamed Ezamouri:

"Hi fellow-teachers!  When I heard that many teachers where having difficulties in their classrooms I just knew that I had to help out.

I knew that they would need visuals and an easy way to say words to their Arabic pupils.  I worked phonetically; this helped teachers and children to pronounce Arabic.  In doing so teachers and peers could easily communicate with Arabic pupils.  Saying simple words in a simple way made life so much easier for everyone!

It was great working with Deborah - producing translations that teachers can easily select and use hassle free in their classrooms.   We would love to share some of our resources with you!  Let me know what you think!"
